Picking a riding jacket you'll actually wear
10 June 2026 · 4 min read · by the Speed World team
The best riding jacket is the one you'll actually put on every day. A heavy jacket that's too hot for our summers ends up at home — and then it protects nobody. Here's what to look for.
Look for real protection
- Armour at the shoulders and elbows — this is the part that takes the hit.
- A pocket for a back protector (fit one if it doesn't come with it).
- Tough outer fabric at the impact points, and strong stitching.
- Adjusters at the arms and waist so the armour stays where it should.
Match it to our weather
For most of the year, a mesh jacket that flows air keeps you cool enough to wear it daily. For winter and touring, look for a jacket with a removable thermal liner. For the monsoon, a waterproof liner or a separate rain layer keeps you dry.
Tip from the shop: Try it on over what you normally ride in, and sit in your riding position — a jacket that fits standing up can pull tight on the bike. Come in and we'll check the fit with you.
